Gooseberry rice/ nellikai sadham

Gooseberry rice is full of nutrients. This is a quick stir fry sort recipe which is quite handy to pack in lunch box especially when you don’t have veggies in fridge or when you are running around like a headless chicken, not knowing what to cook. Prepare this  delicious, satiating  food effortlessly in no time following the detailed stepwise pictures. Gooseberry rice with crunchy peanut in every bite is tangy, tasty and goes well with raw banana chips or potato fry.

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED :

Gooseberry – 6 no.

Sesame oil – 3 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp

Urad dal – 1/2 tsp

Channa dal – 1/2 tsp

Peanuts – 3 tbsp

Green chillies – 2 no.

Red chillies – 2 no.

Sprigs of curry leaves

Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp

Hing – a pinch

Salt ar required

Cooked rice – one bowl

METHOD :

Wash and chop gooseberries. Add it to mixer jar and grind coarsely then set aside.

Heat oil in a pan.  Temper mustard seeds allow  it to crackle. Add urad dal, channa dal and peanuts.

Now add curry leaves, split green chillies, split red chillies and hing.

Then add turmeric powder and the ground gooseberries.

Saute well  for a minute. Add the cooked rice and salt.

Gently mix very well.

Gooseberry rice is done. Wait for a minute in pan for flavours to infuse then serve. This rice goes well with potato fry or raw banana fry.
