Palak aloo paratha

Generally parathas are packed with nutrients. Ground palak is added to dough, aloo stuffing is made separately, kept inside the dough, rolled, flattened and cooked on a skillet. Any vegetable like beet or carrot can be cooked and added to the dough. It makes the paratha look colourful and attractive too. Healthy meals do require little more effort. When your family likes the meal then the effort taken is paid off. It goes well with pickle and raitha. Do try this palak aloo paratha for your family and stay healthy.

Wheat flour – 2 cups (300gm)

Palak – 1 bunch

Potato – 3 no. (225gm)

Onion – 1 medium size

Red chilli powder – 1 tsp

Ginger garlic paste – 1tbsp

Garam masala powder – 1 tbsp

Carom seeds – 1/4 tsp

Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Oil – 2 tbsp

Salt as required.

Butter to smear on parathas.


Pressure cook potatoes, peel the skin, mash it and keep it aside.

In a pan add cleaned palak and add a glass of water.

Close the lid and allow to cook in medium flame for 5 minutes.

When it is done, allow it to cool down and blend to smooth paste using a mixer jar.

In a bowl take wheat flour, ground palak and salt.

Make a dough using little water if required. Keep the dough closed aside.

Heat oil in another pan, temper cumin.

Saute onion and ginger garlic paste.

Now add red chilli powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder and saute until raw smell goes.

Add in the mashed potatoes, carom seeds and salt. Mix them well.

Now the stuffing is done.

With the dough prepared, make equal sized balls and flatten them.

Take a lemon size potato stuffing and place it on the flattened dough.

Close the dough with stuffing and seal it well .

Now dust flour and flatten the dough using rolling pin without letting the stuffing coming out .

Heat the skillet, place the flattened dough on it and cook on both the sides.

When the brown dots appear, smear some butter .

Now the paratha is done.

Serve the hot paratha with pickle and raitha .


You may replace palak with carrot or beetroot or any other veggie of your choice.

Indian flat bread / Raddish Roti

Indian flat bread or Gujarati Thepla or Roti can be made using whole wheat flour. Roti is made easily just by mixing all the ingredients like Indian spices and adding any veggie of your choice and make it like chappatis. You can try different rotis like carrot roti, drumstick leaves roti , methi roti using the same recipe . This recipe contains ajwain which has fiber and antioxidants and it is also used in Indian medicine practices. Curd – 3 Tbsp

Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

Red chilli powder – 1 Tsp

Asafoetida – a pinch

Raddish scrappings – 1/2 cup

Cumin seeds – 1/4 Tsp

Carom / Ajwain seeds -1/4 Tsp

Salt as required

Water if required


In a bowl , combine all the ingredients and knead to a smooth dough.

Use water only if required.

Knead the dough with a tbsp of oil at the end .

Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes.

Later , divide the dough , make balls, flatten them roll them like chappatis .

Heat the skillet, place the roti and cook both the sides.

Smear butter or ghee on rotis .

Now raddish rotis are ready to serve.


Raddish scrappings contain more water so while kneading add water only if required.

You can make drumstick / methi leaves rotis where you may need more water to knead the dough .
